Single Motherhood : When you feel like a terrible mom all the time

When-you-feel like-terrible-mom
We felt humbled when a struggling single mom confided how much she counts upon our Single Motherhood community. When this single mom shared some of her darkest mothering thoughts, we knew we could count on YOU to help her put things in a more realistic and healthier perspective.

Here’s this single mom story:

“I recently gave birth to my little girl who is now four months old,” she told us. “My son is just three.”

Her kids have different fathers, neither of whom play a significant role in their kids’ lives. After her son was born, her mom had helped her, lending emotional and physical support. Unfortunately, her mom recently passed away. This single mom misses her mother terribly, and she feels like she’s “driving blind” without her mother’s help and comfort.

This got us emotional: “I feel like a failure with my children. When I get tired, sometimes I cry, but I feel that’s wrong,” she blurted out. “I feel guilty when I get tired and weepy.”

This single mom feel like a *terrible* mom when she’s not 110 per cent for her kids. Admitting that the household chores and work responsibilities are endless, and kid demands relentless, she nonetheless truly believes that she should be able to do it ALL – every day!

Of course, her kids give her great joy. Her baby is starting to smile. And her son loves to “help” by retrieving a dropped pacifier or singing his favorite song when the baby cries. How sweet.

Frankly, we’re impressed at how well this stressed out single mom is holding things together.

Yet, she feels like a *terrible* mom all the time.

So, we’d appreciate some words of comfort and support:

IS SHE ALONE IN FEELING LIKE A *TERRIBLE* MOM? (DEFINITELY NOT)

What triggers such negative thoughts in you?

How do you better cope when you’re exhausted, overwhelmed and weepy?

Personal experiences are always welcome.
